What to Wear in a Dry Sauna?
By Madama
Depending on your comfort level, a bather can wear nothing, a swimsuit or just a towel. It’s beneficial to keep clothing to a minimum because the temperature in a dry sauna can reach 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
The temperature of a dry sauna may be intimidating but with the lack of humidity, the heat is tolerable. The benefits of using a dry sauna include increased blood circulation, tension and stress relief and rejuvenated skin.
To maximize the benefits of a sauna, its best to follow some helpful tips:
- Shower before using the sauna. The shower will unclog and open pores to encourage more sweating during the session. You should also shower after the session to help close the pores.
- Bring a couple towels to the sauna with you. A small towel used to sit on and a larger, clean towel to use after showering.
- Listen to your body. It’s best to keep sauna sessions between 5 and 15 minutes. It’s okay to acclimate your body to the conditions in the sauna and staying in for only a few minutes during your first few visits to the sauna.
- Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after the sauna session. It’s important that your body remains hydrated.
- Bring a good moisturizer cream with you to moisture your skin after the session. Since the air in the sauna room is dry, it draws a considerable amount of moisture out of your skin.
- If you feel lightheaded or dizzy during the session, leave the sauna area to allow your body to cool down.
